Crystal Ocean retired due to injury

Crystal Ocean endured a career-ending accident on the Newmarket gallops on Thursday morning.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained five-year-old was taking part in a canter as his prep for either the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe or the Champion Stakes at Ascot continued.
Although it’s expected the Sea The Stars whole will recuperate to enjoy a career that is second at stud, and his racing days are finished.
Peter Stanley, spokesman for owner Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, told the PA news service:”He has had to have two screws inserted into a cannon bone.
“He’s good after surgery, he has come through the surgery and will be up and about.
“At this stage the vet finds out no problem at all in him going to stud, but it is early days.
“Clearly it didn’t happen long ago, but the hope is that he makes a complete recovery.”
Never from the first three in a profession, Crystal Ocean was in an epic struggle for this year’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, only missing out to Empower.
He had been the highest-rated horse on earth and eventually landed the Group One his efforts deserved at Royal Ascot in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, where he had been ridden by Frankie Dettori.
